Hula hoop, Buugeng, Poi & Dragon Staff
I was so lucky to find circus in my late 20s; three juggling conventions introduced many skills and evolutions into my life. The flow arts are medicine for the body and soul and are considered active meditation.
Tribal fusion Belly dance
This performance is just at an ashram I was living at and studying in Rishikesh - my fellow student and I wanted to put on a show (:D) We did a great job, don't you think?!
The Feral Banyan Circus
Curated and directed by burgeoning artist Livia Etelka, this show ran two years in a row, involving at least twenty available artists at the time. For both years I played the central character of the story, the main voice in an otherwise instrumental show.
Boudoir Burlesque
This classy event held at the hidden gem Jungle Dance Theatre was filled with poetry, emotion and humour. I was the central figure in this as well, the "madame of the boudoir" - the opening act (in video) and the emcee for the rest of the evening.
Injuco Gala
This hilarious act was for me my first time on stage in a performance like this. Conceptualised by Will Flanagan as a lead in to his "escaping the jacket" act, it really opened up the idea to me that I was perhaps made for this kind of thing. The following year I even performed a hula hoop + singing comedy act but it was sadly not recorded.
Ram Show Bar
My first year in Thailand was great with experiencing the freedom of Thai culture around performance, sex and gender. Perhaps it's not as prolific as in the West but it's definitely freer for me than India!
